(386) A Dose of Inclusivity: A Recap on Inclusive Excellence Initiatives at MCW School of Pharmacy

Background: Inclusive excellence occurs when an institution intentionally engages and incorporates social and human differences into its functioning, strategies, and culture to achieve mission success and thrive with its community. We utilize the inclusive excellence framework which consists of four elements: i) learn and grow to innovate, ii) inclusive leadership at all levels, iii) attract and build a 21st century knowledge force, and iv) be an anchor for and with our community.

Objectives: SOP works collaboratively to create and sustain an environment and culture that ensures inclusion, diversity and equity for all.

Methods: From July 1, 2022 - June 30, 2023, several measures were implemented to promote a community of inclusion for faculty, staff and students. Events that helped achieve this environment included: research, community engagement, team building, networking, and wellness. The SOP equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) taskforce is dedicated to ensuring EDI within the SOP culture and has strong student involvement.

Results: There were 12 events held for faculty, staff, and students with three ongoing community engaged efforts that supported the three Elements of Inclusive Excellence. Of the 12 events, five were faculty development sessions on developing EDI in pharmacy research, one focused on wellness which raised $610 to support suicide awareness, three events focused on equity and diversity celebrating women, refugees and invisible identities with Hmong communities and three were networking/departmental events. There were three ongoing community engagement efforts including the Saturday Clinic for the Uninsured (SCU), MCW Neighborhood Partners Program, and Opioid Awareness Campaign and Building a Culture of Health for Hmong communities.

Conclusion: The Inclusive Excellence Framework served as a strong foundation to base EDI efforts to support inclusive excellence.
