Objective: The University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Pharmacy’s strategic plan was adopted in the Spring of 2019. One strategic priority area is “Cultivate,” where we aim to foster an inclusive community focused on inquiry, respect, diversity, and dedication to talent development. Under this pillar, we have these three priorities: 1) Continuously work, with utmost priority, towards increasing the diversity of the faculty, staff, and student profiles 2) Develop a system that provides dedicated personal development support for faculty and staff 3) All faculty, staff, and students will demonstrate a growth mindset that promotes inclusion and well-being.
Methods: Since 2019, units and our governance committees have actively contributed to these aims by revising recruitment and retention strategies to maintain a diverse workforce. Implementing initiatives that engage faculty and staff through offering professional development monies. Offering free school-sponsored workshops focused on skill-building in the areas of giving and receiving feedback and managing conflict, monthly interprofessional lunch and learns focused on DEIA awareness and capacity building, and through offering activities that build community and promote well-being.
Results: The success of these initiatives will be shared through testimonials, data points, and the number of faculty and staff engaged in the various activities and initiatives.
Conclusion: Our faculty and staff are participating in and appreciating the various school-sponsored initiatives and activities and express appreciation for these initiatives. . The next steps are to identify which divisions and units might be less engaged and identify ways to further engage.
