(381) What's Stopping You? Identifying Barriers to Conducting Student Wellness inside (and outside of) the Classroom

Objective : To evaluate faculty and staff’s perspective on curricular facilitators of and barriers to incorporating student wellness programming both inside and outside of the classroom within a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.

Methods: This is a retrospective observational study. A survey was conducted with PharmD faculty and staff inquiring about wellness programming already integrated within our PharmD courses or outside the classroom with our students. The electronic survey was administered via Qualtrics™ and was open from July through September 2023. The survey questions related to current programming offered both inside and outside of the classroom; we also asked for participant demographics. Following the survey, live interviews were conducted with the College of Pharmacy faculty and staff during the January 2024 meeting of one of our PharmD Curriculum Committees. Committee members were asked three questions about 1) ongoing wellness programming, 2) perceived curricular facilitators, and 3) perceived curricular barriers to wellness programs they observed in the last academic year. Answers to survey questions, and subsequently interview questions, were collected, and each subset of data was summarized via descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. This study was determined exempt by the Ohio State University IRB.

Conclusions: Research in progress. Identified barriers and facilitators will help inform programmatic efforts to promote further integration of wellness activities within the PharmD program at The Ohio State University.
