(380) We Are Pharmily: A Virtual Networking Event for Florida Pharmacy Students

Objective : This initiative offered an innovative format for third-year pharmacy students across Florida colleges of pharmacy to network and build connections before embarking on advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPEs).

Methods: Class representatives from 4 of the 7 Florida colleges of pharmacy arranged monthly Zoom meetings to organize the virtual networking event. Representatives reached out to students from the other Florida colleges of pharmacy with no response. A flyer and registration were distributed to all students within participating colleges. Names, colleges, campuses, and fun facts were recorded on the sign-up document. An Excel spreadsheet was used to randomize each student into separate breakout rooms, thus optimizing the opportunity to interact with as many students as possible. Up to seven students were assigned to each room, moderated by a student organizer. Students rotated through five breakout rooms for 15-minute sessions each. A survey was provided to the participants following the event, which asked for areas of improvement, perceptions on whether the event helped with networking, and whether they would recommend the event to other pharmacy students.

Results: 56 students completed the RSVP form, 40 joined, and 35 responded to the feedback survey. 94.3% (N = 33) of students responded that they would recommend this event to other pharmacy students, and 100% (N = 35) felt the networking event helped them establish connections. Feedback concerning areas of improvement included spending more time in each session, involvement from other universities, and an organized way to share contact information after the event concluded.

Conclusions: This event provided an inaugural opportunity for pharmacy students to establish individual connections and create a sense of community with other students prior to experiential education.
