(114) Professional Outcomes of Students Graduating from the MCPHS Non-Traditional Doctor of Pharmacy Program (NTDP)

Objective : As the number of NTDP programs decline, it's important to evaluate whether the additional education and degree continue to translate into improved satisfaction and confidence. The purpose of this survey was to identify the impact of the NTDP program on individual practice patterns, any change in work setting or position held, increased level of confidence in providing pharmaceutical care, increased job satisfaction, and overall satisfaction of the NTDP Program.

Methods: A 33-question online survey was distributed to NTDP alumni who graduated between 2002-2022. The survey included 5-point Likert scale and open-ended questions about motivations for enrolling, career changes after graduation, pay increase, confidence in skills, satisfaction with the program, and publication history. Descriptive statistics were reported.

Results: Of the 422 surveys emailed, 187 graduates responded(44%). The top motivation for enrolling was career advancement(89%). After earning their PharmD, 26% accepted a promotion at a different company, 20% were promoted within their company, and 40% received a salary increase. Graduates reported performing more clinical activities(69%), provider consultation(73%), and research activities(46%). Graduates also reported being more confident in accessing drug information(91%), interpreting medical literature(94%) and provider consultation(85%). Graduates agreed or significantly agreed that the PharmD opened opportunities(78%), met career goals(80%), were satisfied with their education(93%), and they would recommend the program(91%). Graduates reported that they valued the flexible schedule and knowledgeable professors.

Conclusions: The NTDP program enabled career advancement for many graduates. Graduates reported increased confidence in clinical skills, high satisfaction with the flexible program, career advancement, and increased pay. Overall, the survey of the NTDP program graduates confirmed the impact and need for the NTDP program due to the flexibility of the online platform as a pathway to professional satisfaction.
