(438) Prescription for Success: Cultivating Wellbeing in the Academic Pharmacy Community at UC San Diego SSPPS

Objective: To assess the wellbeing needs of staff and faculty and implement events to foster a culture of engagement and community.

Methods: Electronic surveys were distributed twice among staff and faculty electronically with collected data used to evaluate and compare wellbeing over time. Initial survey results fueled the development of wellbeing-focused initiatives. Staff and faculty engagement was evaluated following events and future event ideas were gathered in subsequent surveys.

Results: Staff survey outcomes from 2022 (initial) and 2023 (follow-up) demonstrated an increase in staff reporting job satisfaction (76% to 79%), increased staff retention (75% to 78%) and a notable strength of the school in offering work-life balance. Faculty survey results from 2021 (initial) and 2023 (follow-up) showed increased rates of reported outside hobbies (75% to 95%) and respondents engaging in at least one wellbeing event (57.5%). Wellbeing events were offered quarterly including dean-sponsored attendance at university sporting events, health-focused activities (ie, yoga, hiking and cycling), community building opportunities (ie, book clubs, networking events with refreshments) and quarterly meeting-free days.

Conclusions: Based on survey feedback, multiple quarterly wellbeing events have been incorporated to promote ongoing health and wellness of the staff and faculty at the school of pharmacy. Wellbeing events are intentionally developed to foster and sustain a culture of staff and faculty engagement and community within our school, which may influence the student experience.
