(433) Living the Oath: Student-Led Resource Development in Experiential Education Prepares and Supports Future Pharmacists

Objective: As a strategy to strengthen our success in providing the highest quality rotations, process transparency, and improving student satisfaction, the 2-person Experiential Education Office (EEO) capitalized on motivated student leaders to build a dynamic resource to assist rotation selection.

Methods: Student leaders utilized Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) software to develop a survey: 39 field names identify the surveyor, site, APPE category, preceptor, typical rotation day/shift, onboarding requirements and costs, rotation activities, housing, and overall satisfaction of the experience. Branching logic and extended text boxes allowed for a higher level of detail in responses. The survey was distributed monthly to current APPE students via email. The opportunity to support future student pharmacists during the rotation preferencing process was highlighted.

Results: During 23-24 APPE year data collection began in August 2023, the 4th month of rotations, and yielded 53 responses from the following rotation categories from August 2023-March 2024: 26 Acute Care (17% response rate), 11 Ambulatory Care (12%), 5 Community (9%), 5 Hospital/Health System (10%), and 6 Elective (8%) rotations with an overall response rate of 13%.

Conclusions: During 24-25 APPE year, students will be asked to complete a survey on their rotation experience during monthly Grand Rounds, maximizing the opportunity for data collection with an initial focus on feedback from Acute and Ambulatory Care experiences due to their high patient contact, importance for post-graduate training, and minimal exposure during the didactic curriculum. Results will be complied with data collected in 23-24 and reviewed by EEO prior to publication. Results will be available during the 25-26 APPE selection process with the intention for student leaders and EEO to update annually.
