(413) Engaging Development Opportunities for Faculty and Staff

Robust development programming for faculty and staff stretches across the three campuses of the College. A 15-member Development Committee plans and executes monthly development programs that range from health and wellness to artificial intelligence in research. At the beginning of each academic year, faculty and staff receive a survey to assess their topics of interest. Throughout the year, the Chair of the Development Committee also receives names of potential speakers and additional topics of interest from faculty and staff. The Development Committee also ensures that ACPE Standards 19.4 and 19.5 are met through programs that address advancing current and proposed future of pharmacy practice; enhancing role-related skills, increasing scholarly productivity; and expanding leadership skills.

Every May the College hosts a signature faculty development program. Faculty from the two distant campuses come to the main Fort Lauderdale campus for graduation and 2 ½ days of faculty development. The program launches with a keynote speaker that addresses the theme of the development program for that year. Lunchtime is for networking and wellbeing activities. The afternoon of Day 1 focuses on academic enhancement for faculty and students. The Research Committee hosts the morning of Day 2. The afternoon of Day 2 is for team building activities and concludes with wine and hors d’oeuvres. The following ½ day is for the academic departments to refresh their teams and to work on department specific projects.

In general, development programs are well attended by both faculty and staff. At the end of each program an online assessment is emailed to faculty and staff. Survey results are consistently high. The University also provides development programs on a continuous basis throughout the year.
