(367) Pharmacy Preceptors’ Use and Perception of AI Chatbots in Pharmacy Practice and Education

Objective : To assess current perceptions and use of artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots in pharmacy practice from the perspective of pharmacy experiential preceptors.

Methods: An electronic survey instrument was developed by modifying questions from the validated Technology Acceptance Model Edited to Assess ChatGPT Adoption (TAME-ChatGPT) tool. The survey was pre-tested and reviewed for face validity by 3 pharmacy educators. The final tool consisted of 53 questions and collected information about pharmacist demographics, current use of AI chatbots, and attitudes toward the use of AI chatbots in practice. In February 2024, the survey instrument was distributed via email to 1877 pharmacy preceptors affiliated with Purdue University College of Pharmacy, University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, Wayne State University Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, University of Illinois Chicago College of Pharmacy Chicago, and Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. A $10 Amazon gift card was provided for each participant completing the survey instrument in entirety. Two reminder e-mails are planned, and data collection will close at the end of March. The project was reviewed and granted exempt status from human subjects research regulations by each participating institution. Data analysis will begin in April following the close of surveys on March 21, 2024.

Results: Data collection is currently in progress.

Conclusions: Final results and conclusions are pending. Data from this project will help to establish baseline perceptions and an understanding of pharmacists’ attitudes and potential concerns regarding AI Chatbots in pharmacy practice.
