(107) Pharmacy Law Continuing Education Program's Influence on Virginia Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam Success

Objective : To evaluate the impact of the Virginia Pharmacy Law Continuing Education (CE) Program on participants’ Virginia Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam (MPJE) pass rates

Methods: The Virginia Pharmacy Law CE is an online, self-study program featuring multiple-choice self-assessments, free response application cases, and recorded video lectures. Developed by Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy faculty, this program serves as a state-specific review course for the Virginia MPJE. This retrospective, mixed-methods study surveyed past CE participants on their MPJE preparation, exam results, perceptions of the VA Pharmacy Law CE, and pharmacy practice experience prior to taking the MPJE. Survey results were analyzed using descriptive statistics and qualitative thematic analysis.

Results: Of the 158 participants asked to complete the survey, 26 responded (response rate = 16.5%). 96% (n=24) of Virginia Pharmacy Law CE respondents reported passing the Virginia MPJE on their first attempt immediately following the use of the CE program. Most survey participants graduated recently from schools in Virginia with previous pharmacy work experience. The overall rating of helpfulness was 8 (out of 10 being the most helpful), and 92% of participants would recommend the program to their colleagues. Four themes emerged from thematic analysis of open-ended perception questions: practice scenarios, alignment to MPJE, program structure, and overall satisfaction.

Conclusions: Most respondents reported passing the MPJE on their first attempt immediately following the use of the Virginia Pharmacy Law CE, indicating a potential intervention for improving MPJE performance. Additionally, this program could provide an example for faculty from institutions in other states to design a similar state-specific review to support graduates and relocated pharmacists.
