(220) Change in General Enterprising Tendency Scores between P1 and P3 Student Pharmacists

Objective : To assess the change in student pharmacists’ general enterprising tendency (GET2) scores from their first (P1) to third (P3) professional year within a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.

Methods: The University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy began using the GET2 test to assess student pharmacists’ enterprising tendencies in 2018. The overall GET2 score is categorized into low, medium, or high and indicates their likelihood to start up and manage innovative projects. Students complete the GET2 test as a P1 during orientation and then complete the same assessment as a P3 in the fall as part of the Personal & Professional Development course. Paired (P1 to P3) scores were available for 4 cohorts of students – class of 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. Differences in GET2 scores between P1 and P3 were evaluated and analyzed for trends.

Results: A total of 375 student pharmacists completed the GET2 at two different time points (P1 and P3 years). The overall GET2 score was low ( < 50) in 13.6% of P1 students compared to 21.1% of the P3 students, 78.9% of the P1 scores were in the medium range compared to 74.1% of the P3 scores, and 7.5% of the P1 scores were high (≥80) compared to only 4.8% of the P3 scores, (p=.012).

Conclusions: GET2 scores decrease between the P1 and P3 years within the PharmD program. This suggests that, as student pharmacists progress within the PharmD curriculum, they are less likely to start up and manage innovative projects. Additional research is needed to evaluate the impact different curricular models and engagement in activities that foster an innovative mindset have on student pharmacists’ enterprising tendencies.
