Why Are They Doing That?! A Crash Course on College Student Development Theories

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Attendees will be able to identify one student development theory and its components.
  • Attendees will be able to practice how to incorporate a student development theory during a student interaction.
  • Attendees will be able to initiate their own research on student development theories.
Hear from three pharmacy student affairs leaders who come to the Academy through graduate degrees in student development. As non-pharmacists, we will share research-based, grounded theories on the development of college-aged students. These theories will provide a foundation for colleagues when interacting with students and a roadmap on how to best assist their student populations. The presenters will highlight the most relevant student development theories and how they can be used in common situations.
