Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Define Classroom Observation Protocol for Undergraduate STEM (COPUS) and its utility as a classroom observation tool.
  • Practice utilizing the COPUS tool to evaluate instructor and student classroom behaviors.
  • Apply the COPUS tool in different evaluation frameworks and learning environments.
How do instructors and students actually spend their time together? In this session, participants will learn how to apply the Classroom Observation Protocol for Undergraduate STEM (COPUS) tool to pharmacy education. This tool, for all levels of faculty, can provide crucial insights to enhance existing evaluative mechanisms such as student evaluations of instruction. Participants will practice COPUS coding in simulated classroom vignettes and explore the data visualizations that a COPUS evaluation provides.
