Teachers' Seminar: Penny for Your Thoughts, A Fortune for Your Thought Process: Breaking Down the Process of Critical Thinking
Saturday, July 20, 2024
9:30 AM – 10:15 AM East Coast USA Time
Location: Sheraton: Independence West
CE: 0.75
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
List critical implicit cognitive steps and strategies you engage in when applying the Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process.
Explain how thinking-aloud, signposting, scaffolding, and metacognition can foster development of critical thinking skills in pharmacy students.
Identify strategies to teach the process of critical thinking to pharmacy students.
Pharmacists use implicit, largely unconscious cognitive resources and processes when applying critical thinking skills to care for patients. When teaching pharmacy students, this fluency-driven blind spot can lead students to engage in cognitive shortcuts and can undermine their attainment of essential principles and strategies to develop effective critical thinking skills. In this session, participants will dissect their own thought processes and explore strategies to teach the process of critical thinking.
