Amy-Joan Ham, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical, Social, and Administrative Sciences, School of Pharmacy, Belmont University, Nashville, TN. She obtained her PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Arizona and completed a postdoctoral fellowship using mass spectrometry to study toxicology and environmental carcinogenesis at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Ham joined the faculty at Belmont University in 2012 after nine years as a researcher at Vanderbilt University. She has been involved in teaching and coordinating Pharmacodynamics series of classes, electives in Pharmacogenomics & Precision Medicine and Toxicology, as well as Research APPEs, and has previously taught/coordinated Anatomy and Physiology, a Research Elective, and a third year Seminar class. She is she is interested in studying the best practices for increasing retention of knowledge for pharmacy students within the foundational sciences (pharmacology, toxicology and pharmacogenomics), with particular interest in the integration of these sciences within the pharmacy curriculum. She is currently serving as Chair for the Pharmacogenomics SIG in AACP and has particular interest in preparing future pharmacists for the continually evolving field of pharmacogenomics and precision medicine and its integration into pharmacy practice. She continues laboratory research with undergraduate and pharmacy students with respect to the development of biomarkers for cancer prediction and therapeutic prognosis using proteomics and mass spectrometry.
