Dr. Careen-Joan Franklin is a Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Psychiatric Pharmacist and Director of Community Pharmacy Residency Programs at Howard University College of Pharmacy (HUCOP). Dr. Franklin has served as a leader in the Maryland Pharmacists Association. is an active member of the DC Pharmacists assoction and is the Director of the HUCOP Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Education Programs in in collaboration with DC Health. She continues to work to increase community access to naloxone and Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) in the District of Columbia. Dr. Franklin collabborates with the Community Pharmacy Enhanced Services Network (CPESN) in Washington, DC and is actively involved in many collaborative efforts to expand the pharmacists’ scope of practice in DC and Maryland. Dr. Franklin has served as a Maryland delegate for the American Pharmacists Association House of Delegates. She serves on the HUCOP Professional Identity Formation and Cultivation Committer and has worked with her colleagues to intentionally incorporate aspects of Professional Identity Formation (PIFCC) into the curriculum at HUCOP. She is the outgoing chair of the AACP Minority Faculty SIG.
