Dr. Alaa K. Abdelhakiem, PharmD is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at El Paso School of Pharmacy. She received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Missouri State University in 2015 and earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy in 2019.
Following her graduation, Dr. Abdelhakiem completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at DHR Health in collaboration with Texas A&M Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy. She further honed her academic and research skills through a Post-Doctoral Academic Fellowship at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy.
In her current role, Dr. Abdelhakiem is involved in teaching within the pharmacotherapy curriculum and leading courses such as the Evidence Based Medicine course and Professionalism, Innovation, Leadership, and Life Skills (PILLs) course. She also precepts APPE pharmacy students during their inpatient general medicine and academia/research elective rotations. Additionally, she leads the Academic Teaching Certificate Program for pharmacy residents at UTEP School of Pharmacy.
Dr. Abdelhakiem serves as the Residency Research Preceptor for PGY1 Pharmacy Residents at University Medical Center of El Paso and PGY2 Pharmacotherapy Residents at UTEP SOP. Her research interests are centered on DEIA, student wellness and resilience, and addressing health disparities.
Outside her professional duties, Dr. Abdelhakiem is dedicated to mentoring pharmacy students and residents, fostering their development and resilience in a dynamic healthcare environment.
