Ashim Malhotra is associate professor and Assistant Dean for Accreditation and Program Development at the California Northstate University College of Pharmacy. He is the Founding Director of the university’s Institute of Teaching and Learning Excellence, and Director of the university’s Interprofessional Education program.
A pharmacist, NYU-trained molecular pharmacologist, and pharmacy educator with over sixteen years of academic experience, he leads faculty development activities for CNU’s six colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Health Sciences, Psychology, Graduate Studies, and Dental Medicine. He earned his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree in 2000, and MS (2003), and PhD (2006) degrees specializing in molecular pharmacology from St. John's University in New York City. For the next five years, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow and subsequently senior research scientist at the New York University (NYU) School of Medicine in molecular pharmacology.
A University Distinguished Teacher, he was elected lifetime Fellow of the Academy of Pharmacology Educators of the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. His many professional contributions have been recognized through 32 college, university, and national awards as of 2020, of which 13 are teaching-related. He was the “Teacher of the Year” at every institution where he has worked. His teaching interests includes transplant medicine, immunology, cardiovascular pathophysiology and pharmacology, renal diseases, IPE, SOTL, and developing novel interprofessional teaching tools and assessment methodologies in pharmacy education. He has garnered $380,000 in funding, published 47 papers and book chapters, presented 72 invited podium presentations and 80 conference abstracts, and edited two books.
