Dorothy Farrell received her B.S. in Physics from Brooklyn College, City University of New York and her doctorate in Physics from Carnegie Mellon University, where her thesis research focused on the synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles. She spent two years at University College London working on the use of nanoparticles in cancer therapy through a postdoctoral fellowship from the Royal Society before returning to the U.S. on a National Research Council Research Associateship at the Naval Research Laboratory. In 2009 she joined the National Cancer Institute as a program director in what was then the Office of Cancer Nanotechnology Research. While at NCI, she oversaw research and developed programs to promote the use of nanotechnology and other emerging technologies to advance biomedical research and eventually improve clinical care. Dr. Farrell joined the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy in 2017 as Senior Director of Science Policy and Chief Science Officer. At AACP, she works with members and partners to support research and graduate education at colleges and schools of pharmacy and promote pharmacy research and inclusion of pharmacy and pharmacists in the biomedical and health services research ecosystem.
