Hoai-An Truong, PharmD, MPH, FAPhA, FNAP, is Professor and Director of Public Health, School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Public Health from University of Maryland Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine, respectively, and completed a community pharmacy practice residency at same institution.
As a pharmacist-educator over 18 years, he has precepted students and provided patient-centered care in medication management clinics. He served as coordinator for interprofessional students on ten medical missions to Haiti, South Africa and Vietnam. He is volunteer pharmacist with Federal Emergency Management Agency and was deployed four times for COVID-19 vaccine clinics. He is member of Maryland Board of Pharmacy Emergency Preparedness Taskforce. He was founding chair of the Eastern Shore Collaborative for Interprofessional Education. He was chair of department of pharmacy practice at West Coast University School of Pharmacy, founding assistant dean for professional affairs at UMES, and assistant director of experiential learning at University of Maryland.
Dr. Truong published more than thirty peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and presented at multiple national and international conferences. He is a co-editor of two books: “The Pharmacist in Public Health: Education, Applications, and Opportunities” and “Disasters and Emergencies: A Planning and Response Guide for Pharmacy Professionals” published by the American Pharmacists Association. He is chair of the Continuing Professional Development Section and past chair of Public Health SIG of AACP. He received Faculty Excellence in Public Service Award from the University System of Maryland.
