PGY-1 Residency Program Director

Matthew Elamparo has extensive experience effectively designing and managing experiential learning programs at the higher education and post-graduate levels. Currently, he serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy and is the PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program Director at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System.
Previously, Matthew held the position of Director of Operations for Experiential Education at the UW School of Pharmacy, where he played a key role in implementing the new APPE purple curriculum, revising the APPE schedule, and aligning assessment goals with COEPA objectives. He also contributed to the development of the innovative Wednesdays in Practice IPPE program.
Matthew's research interests focus on the intersection of experiential program design and curriculum assessment. In the past few years, Matthew has collaborated with his co-faculty to determine effective ways to gather assessment data through effective program design. Most notably, he and his colleagues will be receiving the 2024 AACP Award for Excellence in Assessment for their work integrating a point-in-time assessment approach for APPEs.
Matthew earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Washington School of Pharmacy and completed a PGY1 residency with Fred Meyer Pharmacy/Washington State University. He has also held positions as a Regional Clinical Manager and a Primary Care Clinic Manager.
