A Call to Care: Empowering Students through Suicide Awareness Training

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Summarize the need for pharmacy students to develop skills to help patients in a mental health crisis.
  • Generate ideas for an activity to integrate suicide prevention training and simulation into a pharmacy curriculum.
  • Identify ways to help students feel safe during educational activities that discuss suicide.
Mental health and suicide prevention are increasingly important topics for pharmacy students to be able to address with patients and colleagues. This can be a challenging topic to implement safe, effective training and simulation for students to practice and gain comfort with addressing these issues. Three schools share their different approaches and experiences teaching these topics in skills-based lab curricula. Come share your perspective and help implement this important topic in your pharmacy curriculum.
