Teachers' Seminar: Keynote: Teaching Critical Thinking (CT): Clinical Reasoning Begins with CT and Goes Beyond the PPCP

Good clinical reasoning begins with practicing sound critical thinking, something we all aim to teach our students. Yet do you find that students struggle to make sound clinical decisions even though they know the basic steps of the Pharmacist Patient Care Process (PPCP)? Do they find defending their recommendations with logical rationale a challenge? Turns out, the PPCP was not created to foster clinical reasoning in student pharmacists and cannot be the sole tool used to characterize or cultivate these skills. Join us for this engaging session on the importance of enhancing the “what” and “why” of the PPCP with the “how” of clinical reasoning. We will lay the foundation for the rest of the day as we all learn ways to better teach critical thinking.
