Edgar S. Diaz-Cruz, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Pharmacology in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the College of Pharmacy at Belmont University in Nashville TN. A graduate of the University of Puerto Rico and The Ohio State University, he completed a post-doctoral fellowship in tumor biology at Georgetown University. He currently serves as the Director of Co-Curricular Experiences and is the chair of the Belmont University Faculty Inclusion, Diversity & Equity committee, and member of the Welcome Home Diversity Council. Outside of Belmont University, he is a proud board member of the Association of Biochemistry Educators, and a member of the My Voice HIV Research Council. His current educational focus is on biochemistry, pharmacodynamics, natural products, health disparities, and HIV prevention & treatment. His research goals include identifying molecular and genetic predictors of response to treatment in breast cancer, as well as developing more effective ways to better educate healthcare professionals about social determinants of health. He currently leads translational research efforts to identify and further characterize the molecular mechanisms and genetic alterations underlying the development of breast cancer in order to identify more individualized effective treatment regimens. Ultimately, Dr. Diaz-Cruz aims to make sure that students find their purpose in life through scientific inquiry, connections to the community, humanitarian values, and cultural humility.
