Dr. Benken serves as a Clinical Pharmacist in the MICU at University of Illinois Health, Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) College of Pharmacy, and Director of a Critical Care and Infectious Disease Pharmacotherapy Research Fellowship. He received his Pharm.D. degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy followed by residencies in pharmacy practice and critical care at the UIC College of Pharmacy. Additionally, Dr. Benken completed master’s training in health professions education (MHPE) from the UIC College of Medicine. He is actively engaged in multiple national organizations including AACP, ACCP, and SCCM and has been awarded fellowship in both ACCP and SCCM. He is involved in numerous academic committees and work groups and his research interests involve the optimization of medication therapy in critically ill patients, medication regimens in unique critically ill patient subsets, and exploring the delivery of educational content in Pharmacotherapy education.
