(404) Curricular Mapping of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Anti-racism (DEIA) to Support Faculty and Staff Success

Objective: While DEIA topics and social determinants of health (SDOH) are included in accreditation standards, curriculum mapping often misses redundancies or gaps in this content spread across multiple courses. The primary purpose of this project was to develop and conduct a scoping survey to map DEIA content within the undergraduate, graduate, and professional curricula.

Methods: The online survey was distributed to all college faculty. Data gathered included course identification, curricular program, whether the course was elective or required, and DEIA topics covered within the course as identified from an included topic list or indicated as a free response. Responses were sorted by curriculum and themed by small groups of task force members. For themes that could not be clearly identified, task force members reached out to survey respondents for clarification.

Results: 42 faculty responses representing 53 courses were collected. The majority of responses were collected from required and elective courses in the PharmD curriculum. Themes identified most frequently in the PharmD curriculum included general SDOH and socioeconomics, while global health and faith and religion were identified less frequently.

Conclusions: A clear picture of current DEIA content is necessary to collaborate on a structured progression through DEIA content across the curriculum. Results of the survey will be presented to curriculum committees and shared with college leadership. Content areas that have been duplicated will be discussed to allow faculty and staff to recognize teaching efficiencies while aligning with accreditation and curricular standards. Content omissions will also be discussed to enhance courses within all three curricula. Student focus groups are planned to gather feedback about DEIA topics and perceptions.
