Biological Sciences Section Programming (Mini Session 2 of 2): Scientific Mindset Development: A New Paradigm in Pharmacy Education
Sunday, July 21, 2024
4:00 PM – 4:30 PM East Coast USA Time
Location: Hynes: 309
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
Foster a deep understanding of human physiology, pathophysiology, and the mechanisms of drug action and enhance students' ability to critically evaluate scientific literature and clinical trial data.
Equip students with the knowledge and skills to counsel patients on potential drug side effects and long-term complications and empower students to become competent and ethical pharmacists.
A scientific mindset is fundamental for successful pharmacy practice, enabling practitioners to critically evaluate information, make informed decisions and provide patient-centered care. However, traditional teaching methods often fail to foster this mindset, resulting in a fragmented understanding of drug development, clinical trials and the underlying mechanisms of drug action and adverse effects. Virtual reality (VR) emerges as a transformative tool, offering an immersive environment where students can engage with concepts and visualize biological processes.
