Pharmaceutics Section Programming (Mini Session 1 of 2): Generic Drugs and Bioequivalence: What Every Pharmacy Student Should Know!
Sunday, July 21, 2024
2:15 PM – 2:45 PM East Coast USA Time
Location: Sheraton: Constitution Ballroom
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
List the characteristics of a generic drug product.
Describe one myth about generic drugs and define bioequivalence.
Define bioequivalence.
Generic drug products may differ in terms of their excipients, while maintaining the active drug product. Excipients, which represent ingredients beyond the active ingredient, are found in all dosage forms. Excipients are assumed to be “inactive” in terms of affecting bioequivalence. In this session, we will provide an overview of the generic drug approval process and biowaivers and discuss medication appearance. We will also show some case studies to teach pharmacy students about excipients.
