Social Connection: Reconceptualizing How to Create Community in Pharmacy Academia

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Describe the impact of social connection on workplace culture and health
  • Practice applying key skills and strategies to build social connection (from the GGSC Bridging Differences Playbook; listen with compassion, find shared identities, identify common goals)
  • Design an institutional level intervention to promote social connection (utilizing concepts learned in the session)
Society is becoming increasingly polarized and isolated, eroding our social connections, and directly harming every aspect of our work. Most efforts to date focus on intrapersonal attitudes and strategies. This session builds on these efforts and focuses on social connection, from interpersonal and institutional culture perspectives.

Utilizing the Greater Good Science Center’s Bridging Differences Playbook as a guide, participants will learn about and apply key skills and strategies to enhance social connection in the workplace.
