Ana Maria Castejon, PhD, Associate Dean of Graduate Education, Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy, Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Castejon earned her Pharmacy and Ph.D. degrees in Pharmacology from the Central University of Venezuela. She began her tenure at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in 2002 as a Visiting Scientist in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department, focusing on postdoctoral training in Pharmacogenomics. Dr. Castejon ascended from Vice-Chair to Interim Department Chairperson and was named Associate Dean of Graduate Education in 2020. She manages two master's programs and one Ph.D. program, drawing on over 25 years of experience as a Pharmacy educator. Throughout her career, Dr. Castejon has mentored numerous students at various levels and made substantial contributions to science, including peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, funded research, and securing two patents.
Her research primarily investigates cardiovascular risk factors, the impact of oxidative stress and oxytocin on autism and neuroprotection. She led NSU's first investigator-initiated study—a randomized, placebo-controlled trial focusing on autism—and has significantly advanced interdisciplinary research and academic programs at NSU. These include launching Travel Study Programs to Europe, a minor in Pharmaceutical Sciences, and master’s programs in Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Affairs. Moreover, she has served as a reviewer for multiple scientific journals and as a panel chair at the Department of Defense, contributing expert evaluations for Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs.
