Karen Nagel-Edwards, PhD, FAPhA, serves as Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Midwestern University College of Pharmacy – Downers Grove Campus. She received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from St. Louis College of Pharmacy and her PhD in Industrial and Physical Pharmacy from Purdue University. During her 25-year academic career, she has taught in the areas of physical pharmacy and dosage form design, pharmacy compounding, biotechnology, and history of pharmacy. Her scholarly activity focuses on biotechnology and pharmacy compounding and her publications include Introduction to Biologic and Biosimilar Product Development and Analysis, from the AAPS Introductions in the Pharmaceutical Sciences book series.
She has been an AACP member since 1999, serving as Pharmaceutics section secretary (2005-7) and chair (2015), chair of the Laboratory SIG (2004-5), Council of Sections secretary of knowledge management (2017-2019), and chair of the History of Pharmacy SIG (2023-24). She is a past chair (2010-11) of the American Pharmacists Association (AAPS) APRS Basic Sciences section and its current chair-elect, has served on the APRS Task Force on Biosimilars, and Awards, Education, and Policy committees, and was named as an APhA-APRS Fellow in 2019. She is currently a member of the joint AACP-APhA Gender Equity Task Force. She has served as an abstract and grant reviewer and annual meeting session moderator for both AACP and APhA, an AAPS Chicagoland chapter steering committee member, and NABP Foreign Pharmacy Equivalency Exam Review committee member (2003-present).
