Karen Fiano, Pharm.D., BCACP is the Assistant Dean for Accreditation and Assessment and an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Dr. Fiano earned her Pharm.D. from the University of Florida in 2008 and completed a PGY-1 in Pharmacy Practice, specializing in ambulatory care, at the University of Florida from 2008-2009. She worked as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy from 2010 to 2017. Dr. Fiano joined the faculty at NSU in 2017 and was appointed as the Assistant Dean, Accreditation and Assessment in 2018. She is responsible for the oversight of programmatic and classroom-based assessment for the Pharm.D. program. She currently chairs the Assessment Committee and works closely with faculty and College leadership to ensure adherence to program accreditation standards. Dr. Fiano teaches diabetes and smoking cessation in the Pharm.D. curriculum and is active in the pharmacy profession. She has been a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy since 2011 and has received the Innovation in Teaching Award (2012) and the Emerging Teaching Scholars Award (2018). Dr. Fiano completed the AACP Academic Leadership Fellowship program in 2020 with Cohort 16. In 2019, she was awarded as the Pharmacist of the Year by the Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Dr. Fiano is published in the areas of diabetes management, hyperlipidemia, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
