Kimberly B. Garza, PharmD, MBA, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Health Outcomes Research and Policy at the Auburn University Harrison College of Pharmacy. She is also the Graduate Program Officer for her department and holds a position as a Faculty Fellow in the Biggio Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning at Auburn University. Dr. Garza teaches in both the PharmD and graduate programs at HCOP and is involved in developing and delivering professional development opportunities for both students and faculty. Dr. Garza’s primary research involves the use of immersive technologies, such as virtual reality, to influence individuals’ perceptions of risk and severity of chronic diseases. She also applies these technologies in the classroom to promote the development of empathy among student pharmacists for patients with physical impairments that create challenges in carrying out tasks related to self-care and medication-taking. Dr. Garza has authored multiple peer-reviewed articles and co-edited a book and two special journal issues related to the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), and also publishes in the scholarship of educational development (SoED). Her SoTL topics of interest include professional identity formation, peer coaching, graduate student mentoring, deliberate practice, curricular development, program assessment, and empathy-building learning activities.
