Oh Where, Oh Where Are Young Ones? Deliberating Placement of Pediatrics in the Didactic Curriculum

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Describe the importance of inclusion of pediatric-focused topics in pharmacy school curricula
  • Discuss challenges associated with determining how and where to include pediatric-focused topics in pharmacy school curricula
  • Compare and contrast the benefits and challenges of having pediatrics content delivered as a separate course versus integrated throughout the curriculum in multiple core courses
According to the ACPE Standards, “care across the lifespan” is a key curricular element. Therefore, pediatrics is a core component of all curricula. However, there is variability of where and how pediatric-focused content is included in the didactic curricula. In this session, faculty members specializing in pediatrics will discuss the benefits and challenges associated with inclusion and placement of pediatric focused content and share their experiences with different curricular models.
