Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Identify clarifying questions that faculty members should ask before, during, and after an interim appointment.
  • Outline ways in which succession planning can be utilized by organizations during times of transition.
  • Evaluate case scenarios from individual and organizational perspectives to apply strategies learned.
Filling an interim position involves important considerations for the individual faculty and the organization to ensure success for both. Three strategic points in an interim appointment will be discussed: before, during and after. For the individual, an interim is an opportunity to “try out” a role but requires thoughtful negotiation. For the organization, succession planning and appropriate support are critical. Speakers will share perspectives and lessons learned from their own interim journeys to help others.
