Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Describe the pharmacist’s role in harm reduction in the context of drug use.
  • Discuss current examples of harm reduction instruction within pharmacy education.
  • Identify opportunities and strategies for incorporating harm reduction within pharmacy curricula while being cognizant of the institutional challenges surrounding the incorporation of this content.
This session will familiarize faculty with harm reduction principles in drug use and the pharmacist's role in reducing health risks for drug users. It will showcase various ways pharmacy schools can integrate this topic into the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum, ensuring person-centered care for those at risk of accidental overdose and other drug-related complications. These activities can also profoundly influence student attitudes and beliefs regarding drug users.
