Re-imagining Economic, Social and Administrative Sciences Topics in the Curriculum for the 2030 Pharm.D. Graduate

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Describe the key areas within Economic, Social, and Administrative Sciences (ESAS) that require adaptation in the pharmacy curriculum to align with the needs of the 2030 PharmD graduate.
  • Identify specific gaps within participant’s home institution's ESAS curriculum by completing an inventory worksheet.
  • Develop an actionable plan for implementing changes in the ESAS courses at their home institution to ensure a smooth and effective update of contents.
Traditionally, Economic, Social, and Administrative Sciences (ESAS) topics taught by ESAS and practice faculty nationwide have covered areas such as pharmacy practice management, pharmacy ethics, communications, pharmacoeconomics, biostatistics, healthcare systems and public health. Given the significant shifts in pharmacy employment opportunities, it is crucial to reevaluate the content and skills taught within ESAS disciplines to better prepare the new graduate for practice in the evolving landscape, including complete automation of pharmacy operations and artificial intelligence.
